Leadership and Service

A real leader is somebody who, because of [his/her] own particular power and charisma and example, is able to inspire people, with “inspire” being used here in a serious and non-cliché way. A real leader can somehow get us to do certain things that deep down we think are good and want to be able to do but usually can’t get ourselves to do on our own.

 -David Foster Wallace

Those times you get up early and you work hard. Those times you stay up late and you work hard. Those times you don’t feel like working— you’re too tired and you don’t want to push yourself— but you do it anyway. That’s actually the dream…

And if you guys can understand that, then what you’ll see is that you won’t accomplish your dreams, your dreams don’t come true. something greater will.

About Brandon and the award: "Brandon Hampson was a member of the Brea Olinda Wildcat Marching Band but passed away soon after his graduation due to brain cancer. The Hampson family created this award to honor members of the band that are "always ready to offer a kind word, a ready smile or a willing hand to everyone [he/she] meets" and "look beyond [themselves] to serve others" in a manner than Brandon did passionately during his time in the program.
